Tennessee Titans

From top to bottom, the Tennessee Titans have one of the best overall rosters in the AFC. They have done an incredible job of consistently finding value in the draft and free agency to build a roster that should be ready to compete in the short-term. That being said, the Titans continue to be stuck in mediocrity and their lack of consistent quarterback play is at least partially to blame.

Marcus Mariota certainly has an exciting skill set. He is an extremely mobile quarterback who shows a strong arm and the ability to place the ball well at all levels. That being said, Mariota has undoubtedly been a disappointment in the NFL. Simply put, he has been far too inconsistent as the quarterback of the Titans and must show improvement in 2019 if he expects to continue to be a starter going forward.

Mariota enters the 2019 season in the final year of his rookie contract. He certainly has a chance to play his way into a long-term contract with the Titans, but based on his play the last two seasons, I do not expect that to happen. The most likely scenario is that Mariota continues to play at a mediocre level, opening up an opportunity for the Titans to move on from him over the off season.

Luckily for Tennessee, there expects to be plenty of quarterback talent in the 2020 NFL Draft, and with their loaded roster, the Titans could afford to aggressively make a move up for a quarterback. This team is legitimately a quarterback away from becoming real contenders in the AFC. If Mariota cannot be the guy to lead them to the promised land, the Titans have to aggressively find their franchise signal-caller.
