Oakland Raiders

Whether they publicly admit it or not, the Oakland Raiders appear ready to move on from quarterback Derek Carr. Carr is a former second-round pick who has carved out a nice career with the Raiders. In particular, his performance during the 2016 season (63.8% completion percentage, 3,937 passing yards, 28 touchdowns and only six interceptions) was awfully impressive.

That being said, Carr has become more of a game manager throughout his career, not a quarterback who can lead a team like the Raiders to the promised land.

Carr is a talented quarterback, but he simply struggles to push the ball down the field. He takes the check down option a majority of the time, and while that is not always an issue, it does not fit the direction that the Raiders appear to be heading.

This off season, Oakland made significant investments in wide receivers Antonio Brown and Tyrell Williams. While Brown can obviously do it all, both of these receivers are significant downfield threats who excel in the deep passing game. Jon Gruden appears to be looking to stretch the field vertically, but Carr simply has not shown that ability on a consistent basis. I would not be surprised to see Gruden and the Raiders move on from Carr soon.

This team is going to want to inject some excitement into the franchise prior to the move to Las Vegas. What better way to do that than selecting an exciting quarterback prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft?
