Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders sent home all of their scouts in order to keep their top pick a secret.

The irony here is, the Raiders could have told the whole world they were taking Clelin Ferrell with the fourth overall pick, and two things would have happened.

1. No one would have believed them and;

2. No one would have jumped into the top three picks to secure him

Clelin Ferrell is going to be a good NFL player. He’s a high character, high caliber athlete with production to match his intangibles. There’s nothing wrong with him as a prospect, but there was a better player on the board with the fourth overall pick: Josh Allen of Kentucky.

The Raiders could have used the same logic and drafted the high character, highly productive Josh Allen with their top pick, but they chose Ferrell because he played for a winning program.

It’s not always the guys on the winning programs who turn out to be the best pros. Allen was a superstar on a defense that didn’t have anyone else on the front even close to his caliber.

Clemson had three top 20 picks on the defensive line.

I think the Raiders could have even gotten Allen at 4 and then Ferrell with one of their next two first-round picks.
