Otaro Alaka- ILB/OLB- Texas A&M

Like with their issues at pass rusher, the Baltimore Ravens opted not to re-sign linebacker C.J. Mosley during offseason, nor did they spend the requisite draft capital to replace him.

Currently, the players the Ravens are fielding at inside linebacker includes Patrick Onwuasor, Kenny Young, Chris Board, Alvin Jones and Matthew Thomas. This is hardly an elite group, sure Onwuasor is a fine player but nowhere near the caliber that Mosley was.

To potentially fill this gap, the Ravens took roughly the same approach they did with edge rusher and signed three players to come in and compete for a spot. The most prominent name of the group is former Texas A&M Aggie, Otaro Alaka.

While in College Station, Alaka was seen as a leader on the Aggie defense, spending his time either roaming over the middle or rusher the pass. He finished his career at A&M with 260 tackles, 36.5 TFL’s and 10 sacks. And for me, Alaka did not get enough love throughout his college career.

Alaka is not an elite prospect (Had him ranked 201st overall), however, he has the range, toughness and tackling ability to become a starting linebacker. His versatility as a pass rusher and cover guy could be what gets him a roster spot. Alaka could play special teams to start, much like Jones and eventually work his way into a role.

Overall Ravens fans, he’s not going to be next Mosley, but you should be rooting for this guy to make a roster spot at the end of training camp.
