A complete scouting report on 2020 NFL Draft prospect, Ohio State defensive end Chase Young.

Chase Young is an exciting EDGE prospect who is inarguably one of the most talented players of the 2020 NFL draft class. He shows good overall size and length on the outside, with the impressive combination of strength and athleticism that makes him a fit for any defensive scheme. Young is best suited to be a 4-3 defensive end at the next level but certainly has the ability to rush the passer from the edge for a 3-4 team.

More from NFL Mocks

Young arrived at Ohio State with a ton of hype as a consensus five-star prospect. He contributed as a part-time player as a freshman, playing 12 games and finishing the season with four sacks. He took his game to the next level in 2018, piling up 33 total tackles, 14.5 of which were for a loss and 10 sacks. His performance last season puts him squarely on the radar as a top-tier prospect for the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Ohio State product is extremely impressive in space, showing high-level change of direction quickness and impressive lateral agility. He gets off of the ball quickly and creates great upfield burst as a pass rusher, immediately putting stress on the offensive lineman.

Young consistently gets proper extension as a pass rusher and flashes an impressive inside rip move. He can also bend around the edge at an extremely high level.

Young can occasionally create pressure when he decides to go to the bull rush, but I would like to see him become more dynamic in this department. His functional strength is adequate, but his pass rush prowess is primarily built on burst and athleticism around the outside.

Young is a capable run defender who sets the edge well and can make plays as a one-gap penetrator. He tackles well in space and shows impressive play recognition as a run defender.

I would like to see Young show some more play strength during his junior season and there are concerns about his motor. When Young is totally committed, he is nearly unstoppable, but he tends to take plays off and does not always play through the whistle.

Next. Way too early 2020 NFL mock draft. dark

Overall, Young is an exciting edge rusher who undoubtedly has massive upside at the next level. However, in order to reach that ceiling, he must get stronger at the point of attack and work on becoming a more consistent player. NFL teams are undoubtedly going to love his skill set and with his expected development, Young is a likely top-five selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.
