Talk about zigging when everyone else is zagging, I wish I had the guts to be the one guy on this planet praising the punter pick there in the fourth round. But I’m going with Deebo Samuel, the offensive weapon out of South Carolina. Kyle Shanahan will find ample opportunities for this young man to have success after the catch.
Kyle Shanahan has made the likes of Johnny Manziel, CJ Beathard, Brian Hoyer and even Nick Mullens look like sustainable quarterbacks in the league. How does he do that? He schemes receivers into wide open areas where even you and I could put it on the guy. That type of play calling is going to be deadly with a YAC monster like Deebo.
Worst Pick: Mitch Wishnowsky, P
Look I don’t care if this Aussie wonder punter is the next Ray Guy, it’s rarely a good decision to be the team to take the first punter off the board. This is the only player on your roster, you genuinely wish to never see on the field.
The 49ers were 4-12 last season for reasons, and Jimmy GQ going down wasn’t the only one. There are plenty of holes left to fill on this roster, and spending such a pick on a punter gets you a C+. Had you taken Christian Miller, Dru Samia, Austin Bryant, or any of the other solid position players available, it would have been better.
