Miami Dolphins: 3 UDFAs who could make an immediate impact
Deion Calhoun, OG, Mississippi State
The Miami Dolphins have a lot of work to do to their offensive line. Laremy Tunsil is a talented left tackle for the team to build the unit around, but they desperately need to add significant talent and depth at other positions up front. The addition of third-round rookie Michael Dieter will help on the interior, but it simply is not enough.
It is unlikely that the Dolphins are able to fix their offensive line issues in undrafted free agency, but finding some quality depth is certainly possible. The signing of Mississippi State guard Deion Calhoun stood out to me as an interesting addition for the team.
Calhoun was a full-time starter at right guard the past two seasons and a second-team All-SEC selection in 2018. He shows impressive overall pass protection skills and is a capable run blocker as well. This guy has fantastic competitive toughness, looking to consistently beat up his opponents and never giving up on the play. He is also a relatively athletic player who can reach the second level with ease and is particularly impressive when asked to pull.
Calhoun needs to work on his hand usage, footwork and overall technique in order to have a chance to be an impact starter at the next level, but his hard-working attitude and pass protection prowess gives him a chance to make an immediate impact. I like Calhoun as a potential depth piece for the Dolphins who could grow into a starting guard if he cleans up his game.
