Albert Huggins, DT, Clemson

Albert Huggins was a top 100 recruit and All-American defensive lineman in high school. He showed an impressive overall skill set up front and was heavily recruited by teams around the country. Huggins decided to stay local, signing with Clemson and playing for four seasons for his hometown University.

Clemson certainly had a lot of success while Huggins was on the team, but with multiple high-round NFL draft picks also in the defensive line mix, Huggins was never able to become a four-year starter. He left Clemson as a four-year contributor who the Tigers could count on up front, but playing behind guys like Christian Wilkins and Dexter Lawrence limited his ability to show out for NFL scouts.

It is unfortunate that Huggins went undrafted, basically to no fault of his own. That being said, I like his chances of sticking on with the Houston Texans. Huggins is a big and strong defensive tackle who excels against the run. He consistently eats up blocks up front and holds his ground extremely well on the inside. Huggins has success as both a one and two-gap run defender.

He is limited athletically and does not provide much as a pass rusher, but Huggins is a strong run defender who can make an impact at the next level. Run stuffing defensive tackles are not as important as they used to be, but there is still a place for them in the game. I could see the Houston Texans adding Huggins to their roster out of camp, as their backup nose tackle who could quickly prove himself as a starting caliber player.
