I hate to be Mr. Negative, but in my opinion, Carolina came up awfully short in the 2019 NFL Draft, considering the positioning of their top three picks. As we have seen in this division, some teams only had ONE pick in the top 100, the Panthers had three, and to be honest with you, Brian Burns is the only player who they drafted who I can say is a day one starter.
And while I’m beating this dead horse, I’ll go ahead and tell you I truly question Burns’ ability to stay on the field in the NFL due to his lack of ability to set the edge in the run game.
The Greg Little pick is troublesome to me as well. Though I applaud Carolina for finally investing in offensive line play for Sir Cameron Isaac Newton, Dalton Risner was still on the board at #37 and he fits their run-heavy scheme a hell of a lot better than Greg Little, who digressed as a player in college.
The Will Grier pick makes me scratch my head as well. Let’s be honest, if Cam Newton goes down again this year, their season is down the drain anyway. Why not take a guy here in the 3rd round that will impact your starting roster? This team is hopeless without their quarterback.
The only bright spot here for me is the Dennis Daley pick there in the 6th round. This is a multi-year starter in the SEC at left tackle and he has the potential to start in the NFL one day.
