Before we get into the defending NFC South champs, New Orleans Saints, let’s take into consideration a couple of ground rules moving forward. I think it’s important to first understand the movements and patterns of each team throughout free agency first, then assessing their draft.

This seems like an obvious step, though one often overlooked. To me, I find it impactful to fully understand the players signed and released headed into the draft because it ultimately reveals your draft strategy. If a team signs a bunch of cornerbacks in the offseason, and they draft a corner with a top 40 pick, then that is a sign that they deem value over need in terms of drafting. Vice Versa if a team needs a ton of help on the defensive line, then seemingly overdrafts a player at an early spot, that team values positional needs over the value of the best prospect available.

With that being said, let’s check out how the NFC South did in the 2019 NFL Draft, starting with the New Orleans Saints.
