Indianapolis Colts: Parris Campbell an absolutely perfect fit

The Indianapolis Colts struck gold with the selection of Parris Campbell in the 2019 NFL Draft.

There is a lot to like about what the Indianapolis Colts are doing. General manager Chris Ballard and his staff clearly have an eye for talent and they are taking a patient approach, wisely build their team around Andrew Luck through the draft. Ballard and company already had the Colts heading in the right direction and their showing in the 2019 NFL Draft was another positive step.

Guys like Rock Ya-Sin, Ben Banogu and Bobby Okereke will certainly make an impact on the defensive side of the ball, but it is the second-round selection of Ohio State wide receiver Parris Campbell that really stands out in this draft haul.

The Colts have needed a legitimate threat opposite of T.Y. Hilton for many years. Hilton is a fantastic NFL receiver who is one of the best deep threats in the game. However, he has struggled to create space at times due to constant attention from opposing defenses. Having a true playmaker on the opposite side would do wonders for Hilton and the Colts offense as a whole. Campbell has all the makings of becoming this playmaker.

Campbell showcases elite speed and quickness on a consistent basis, displaying the ability to create separation at all levels. He is a true deep threat who can burn a cornerback in an instant and tracks the ball in the air. Campbell did most of his damage in the short to intermediate range in college, creating quick separation at the line of scrimmage and creating maximum yardage after the catch.

Simply put, Campbell is a true playmaker on the outside who can make an impact all over the field. Adding a dynamic player like Campbell across from Hilton is a scary proposition for opposing defenses. The Indianapolis Colts were already on the right track and adding Campbell to the mix immediately raises their already high ceiling. This is the kind of selection that should get Colts fans excited.
