Biggest Steal and Reach of Each Round of the 2019 NFL Draft
STEAL: Dallas Cowboys – Jalen Jelks, Edge, Oregon (Pick 241)
Jalen Jelks is too long and too experienced of an edge rusher to nearly go undrafted.
After not hearing his name through the first six rounds, the Dallas Cowboys added the former Duck with the 241st pick of the seventh round.
Jelks saw moderate production in his career at Oregon, totaling 15.5 sacks and 30 tackles for a loss in his four years with the team.
He isn’t the most athletic player but he is a high motor type of guy that plays with a sense of urgency that could help him find work on special teams early in his career with Dallas.
With some added weight to his long frame and NFL coaching, he could turn into a rotational piece pass rusher on a team that doesn’t have much depth at the position.
REACH: Oakland Raiders – Quinton Bell, DE, Prairie View A&M (230)
It’s tough to call any seventh round pick a reach but Mike Mayock did his best to make that the case after capping off his first draft with the Oakland Raiders by drafting a relatively unknown out of Prairie View A&M.
Quinton Bell is a defensive end that began his career as a wide receiver, a position change that you don’t hear of very often, who put himself on the map after reportedly running a sub-4.4 40 and had a 41.5” vert at his pro day.
In his time with the Panthers, Bell tallied 7.5 sacks and had 46 total tackles in just his second year on the defensive side of the ball, which certainly makes his upside worth checking out.
That being said, while Bell’s physical ability certainly provides some intrigue, he was the third edge rusher the Raiders drafted and will likely be a long shot to make the team.
