Biggest Steal and Reach of Each Round of the 2019 NFL Draft
STEAL: Washington Redskins – Kelvin Harmon, WR, NC State (Pick 206)
Out of all of the notable 2019 draft falls, Kelvin Harmon’s may be the most baffling.
He was in the mix to be a sure-fire day 2 pick in the 2019 draft up until the NFL combine, but a slowish 40-yard dash must have hurt his stock more than I was expecting.
Harmon ran a 4.60, which is not a great time, but nobody thought he was going to run in the 4.4’s anyway.
He is a possession guy that uses his release off the LOS, strong hands and length to beat his coverage.
Teams really must have been turned off by the speed “concerns” though as he was still on the board for the Washington Redskins when they finally ended his tumble at pick 206 in the sixth round.
Harmon is too talented a player to have been sitting around this late and Dwayne Haskins will be thankful that he was gifted such a weapon at this point in the draft.
My comparison for Harmon is Anquan Boldin, who ran a 4.77 at the combine back in the day.
How well did that one turn out?
REACH: San Francisco 49ers – Tim Harris, CB, Virginia (Pick 199)
Tim Harris was at Virginia for a whopping six seasons after having season-ending injuries early in his 2016 and 17’ campaigns.
He then returned for his final year with the Cavaliers to try and prove he could come back as good as ever and he performed well.
His performance led to an invite to the East-West Shrine game and he was reportedly dominant the entire week of practices.
Pair that with an outstanding showing at Virginia’s pro day where he showed off elite athletic traits and he became a sixth round pick to the 49ers.
This is a great story and he clearly worked his tail off to get to this point, but the injury history and the fact that he will be 24 years old when his first NFL season starts are reason enough to dub this a bit of a reach.
Although, I will be rooting for Tim Harris and wouldn’t put it past him to see him surprise at the next level.
