Biggest Steal and Reach of Each Round of the 2019 NFL Draft
STEAL: Dallas Cowboys – Michael Jackson, CB, Miami (Pick 158)
Not a lot of people were chatting about Miami’s Michael Jackson during the draft process and I still cannot figure out why.
He perfectly fits the mold of the big, athletic corner in today’s NFL, as he stands 6’1″, weighs 210 pounds, ran a 4.45 and jumped 40+ inches at the NFL combine.
He has solid ball skills, excels in press-man coverage and is not afraid to tackle, so the Cowboys scooping him up in the fifth round gives them one of the biggest steals of the draft in my opinion.
Jackson is a freak athlete and plays with a level of physicality and swagger that you want in a defensive back.
Dallas fans will get a welcomed surprise with Michael Jackson, as I predict he will have a significant impact for the Cowboys in year one.
REACH: Atlanta Falcons – Qadree Ollison, RB, Pittsburgh (Pick 152)
The Atlanta Falcons lost one half of their two-headed monster in the backfield after Tevin Coleman went to San Francisco in free agency.
It was likely that they would draft a back to remedy that loss and they did just that by taking Pittsburgh’s Qadree Ollison in the fifth round.
Ollison is a big back who had a ton of production at Pitt but there were quite simply more talented backs still on the board for this pick to not be a reach.
If they were looking for a Coleman type of player, Rodney Anderson, Mike Weber, and Dexter Williams were a few available names that would fit the bill better, in my opinion, as they provide more versatility at the next level.
Ollison doesn’t possess the necessary athletic traits to play in passing situations and is too one dimensional to be a real threat as anything more than a big body to add to a small running back group.
