Biggest Steal and Reach of Each Round of the 2019 NFL Draft
See if one of your favorite squad’s picks make the list as I break down who I feel was the biggest steal and reach of each round of the 2019 NFL draft.
The 2019 NFL draft has come and gone, much to the chagrin of draft fanatics everywhere, but it was quite the spectacle that had a lot of memorable moments.
Whether it was surprising selections early on, or big names falling further than expected, this draft class had it all.
Instant reaction is all we have to go off of right now, and while time will tell who will live up to these labels, here are the biggest steal & reach of each round of the 2019 NFL draft, starting in round one.
STEAL: Jaguars – Josh Allen, Edge, Kentucky (Pick 7)
Every year a team makes a surprise selection at the top of the first round that pushes a presumed top 5 talent down further than expected.
Luckily for the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Raiders and Giants tag teamed that honor this year, allowing Josh Allen to fall right into their lap.
The 2018 SEC defensive player of the year was one of the most productive pass rush artists in conference history, as he tallied 31.5 sacks in his career with the Wildcats (3rd all-time in SEC).
Allen is a perfect fit for the Jaguars defense and paired with Calais Campbell and Yannick Ngakoue, the team should get back to their Sacksonville ways in 2019.
Easily the biggest steal of the first round.
HONORABLE MENTION: Washington – Montez Sweat, Edge, Missippi State (Pick 26)
REACH: New York Giants – Daniel Jones, QB, Duke (Pick 6 *make your own joke here*)
I almost feel bad for picking on Daniel Jones at this point as the media has ripped the Giants relentlessly for selecting the Duke QB with the sixth pick of the 2019 NFL draft.
We heard for weeks that the Giants liked him but the team had two first round picks and a ton of holes to fill, so many believed that if they were going to draft him, it would be with their second pick at 17.
Well, Dave Gettleman waits for nobody as he took Jones at 6 and Twitter was ablaze.
There is almost nothing that Jones does that warrants such a valuable pick, especially when you take into consideration the defensive talent the Giants passed up to get him.
Not only is Daniel Jones the biggest reach of the first round, but I am comfortable saying that he was the biggest reach of the entire 2019 draft.
