. team. 10. . . . Houston Texans

1 (23): Tytus Howard, OT, Alabama State
2 (54): Lonnie Johnson, CB, Kentucky
3 (55): Max Scharping, OT, Northern Illinois
4 (86): Kahale Warring, TE, San Diego State
5 (161): Charles Omenihu, DE, Texas
6 (195): Xavier Crawford, CB, Central Michigan
7 (220): Cullen Gillaspia, RB, Texas A&M

The Houston Texans made the surprise pick of round one when they took Tytus Howard out of Alabama State. Howard was not a unanimous first-round pick by any means, and Houston could have traded up a couple of spots to get Andre Dillard, probably the best pass protector in the entire class.

For that reason, I don’t love this pick as much, but the Texans are confident in Howard, obviously, to protect their franchise QB.

Lonnie Johnson is a long, physical cornerback who provides the Texans with some of that attitude they lost when Tyrann Mathieu bolted for the Chiefs.

Max Scharping was highly regarded by many in the draft community and he will also help protect DeShaun Watson.

I do’t love Kahale Warring in the third-round. He’s a former basketball player who struggled badly with dropped passes, but he’s an athletic specimen who looks like a Greek god.

The best value pick for the Texans was Charles Omenihu in the fifth round. He is a starting caliber player whose fall was inexplicable for all of us watching.
