team. 59. . . . Miami Dolphins.

The Miami Dolphins with new head coach Brian Flores made a huge splash in the 2019 NFL Draft, but that huge splash came smack in the middle of day two.

The Dolphins’ huge splash was, of course, trading a second-round pick for quarterback Josh Rosen.   Though the price to acquire Rosen included a second-round pick this year, the Dolphins recouped a second rounder in next year’s draft in case they want (or need) to move up for a quarterback then.

Their draft grade this year has to take the acquisition of Rosen into consideration.

Other than that move, the Dolphins made a safe pick in round one by taking Christian Wilkins out of Clemson. I like his fit in Brian Flores’ defense, but I like even better that they are picking players who are culture establishers.

Minkah Fitzpatrick (2018) and Wilkins are going to be two players this team can build around for quite some time. We’ll see if Rosen can be their offensive counterpart.

Other than Wilkins, the Dolphins’ draft was slightly underwhelming.

Michael Deiter could develop into a starter on their offensive line and, in fact, may be asked to do so this year.

Andrew Van Ginkel and the rest of the Dolphins’ day three picks will have to compete for spots on the bottom of the roster by making an impact on special teams.
