Jacksonville Jaguars mock draft: TJ Hockenson leads balanced class
Round 7 Pick 236: P.J. Johnson, DT, Arizona
The Jaguars are thin on the inside of their defensive line and while I did have them adding some talent in the fourth with Gerald Willis, I think there is still a depth need.
Arizona’s P.J. Johnson can provide that depth by adding a big athletic body that can play in several defensive sets.
After begging his career going the junior college route, Johnson ended up with the Wildcats where he was one of their more important players on the defense in 2018.
He finished second on the team in tackles for loss with 8 and notched 3 sacks in 11 starts.
After watching a couple of games and focusing on what Johnson can bring to the table it’s clear that he is a high motor player with a lot of appealing traits
He is surprisingly quick off the snap, aggressive against the run and has a relentless pursuit.
One play, in particular, stood out against Cal, as Johnson ran nearly 30 yards downfield to help clean up a tackle on a run play that went away from him.
While he wasn’t invited to the combine, Johnson helped his cause as a potential late round pick after performing well at Arizona’s pro day.
He put up 20 reps on the bench and ran an admirable 5.07 40 yard dash while weighing in at 323 pounds.
The Jaguars were one of several teams to meet with him and I feel he would be a great option to close out the Jaguars 2019 NFL draft class.
