Round 2 Pick 38: Kaleb McGary, OT, Washington

It can be argued that tackle is the Jaguars biggest need going into the draft and bypassing the position in favor of a tight end in the first means that they have to pull the trigger on one in the second.

Luckily for the Jags, with the tackle position being as deep as it is, there is bound to be some solid talent still on the board when they are back on the clock at 38.

After several mocks using the Draft Network simulator, I feel that Washington’s Kaleb McGary is the most likely option for the Jaguars in the second round.

He was voted first team All-Pac-12 in consecutive years and was the 2018 Morris Trophy recipient, which is given to the top offensive lineman in the conference as voted on by the players.

McGary started 47 games in his career with the Huskies and is a powerful player that is very aggressive in the run game, which is a trait that would make him what football folk call a “Coughlin guy”.

For the most part, McGary shows the necessary traits to succeed at the next level but he does have some things to clean up.

He has undisciplined moments in pass protection where he is fooled by rushers and looks silly, but these are largely due to inconsistency with his footwork and pass sets.

That being said, there is plenty on tape to show that when he maintains his technique, he can be a plug and play guy on the right side of the line in Duval County.
