Which teams are most likely to trade up in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft? We take a look at four candidates.

What motivates teams to move up in the NFL Draft? More often than not, it has something to do with the quarterback position. The 2019 NFL Draft should have no shortage of moving around — just like every other draft.

Teams need help protecting or supporting their quarterback. Teams need players who can get after the quarterback.

Some teams just need a quarterback.

The biggest trades we see in the NFL Draft usually revolve around one of those three things.

Since the 2016 NFL Draft, the only first-round quarterback who was not acquired via trade up is Baker Mayfield, the number one pick of the 0-16 Cleveland Browns in 2018.

Otherwise, Jared Goff (Rams), Carson Wentz (Eagles), Paxton Lynch (Broncos), Mitch Trubisky (Bears), Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs), DeShaun Watson (Texans), Sam Darnold (Jets), Josh Allen (Bills), Josh Rosen (Cardinals), and Lamar Jackson (Ravens) were all traded up for.

In the 2018 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints also traded up from the bottom of the first round to take pass rusher Marcus Davenport.

Which teams will trade up this year? There are plenty of candidates to move up, but I’m picking the top four most likely to do so.
