Strong Safety: Johnathan Abram, Mississippi State

I’m tired of hearing people use the term “in the box” safety, so we’ve got a new term here at NFL Mocks. From here on out, the “in the box” safety shall forever be known as The Thumper.

Because that’s what they are if you boil it all down. The Thumper is the guy that’s an impactful tackler, that despite his limitations in the passing game, bring’s a body bag at the point of contact.

That guy in this draft is John Abram. For goodness sake, he ended the Mississippi State spring game last year by knocking out his own teammate. He hit this man so hard they literally called it a day. That’s not even to mention his numerous targeting penalties in college.

Bottom line, Abram takes no prisoners. Expect Mel Kiper to compare Abram to Keanu Neal on draft day because it’s just too easy.
