Round 2 (55): Charles Omenihu, DE, Texas

While JJ Watt and Jadeveon Clowney are obviously two of the league’s best pass rushers, they could use some help getting after the QB in 2019.

Watt finished his incredible 2018 campaign with 16 sacks, while Clowney put together a solid 9 sack season. However, nobody on their support staff were able to surpass more than 4 sacks on the year.

One name that should be on the team’s radar to help the cause is Texas defensive end, Charles Omenihu, as he could be a great fit for the Texans odd front.

In his time at Texas, Omenihu tallied 16.5 sacks and 30 tackles for a loss as he proved to be a handful for offensive tackles in the Big 12.

He is also what you would call an “off the bus” type of guy as he measured into the combine at a rocked up 6’5″ 280 pounds.

He has long arms, that show up on tape, as he shows the ability to use that leverage to his advantage and pairs that with intelligent hand usage at the point of attack.

With Clowney under the franchise tag in 2019 and Watt now playing in his 30’s with a long history of injuries, the team needs to start thinking about insurance policies.

Omenihu is a good scheme fit, as he has the frame to fit nicely as a 5-technique in Houston’s defense, and shows a lot of pass rushing traits that should translate at the next level.
