Round 6, Pick #189: Derrek Thomas, CB Baylor

Hey, John Dorsey, I know you’re reading this. So, how’s a 6’3 200 lbs corner sound? With Thomas’s wingspan at almost 34″ (what Jonah Williams would do for those), he has the ability to hold receivers at the line of scrimmage in press coverage. The only problem is, in college, you rarely get to see it because everyone wants to play cover 3 press bail.

But the snaps he is in press coverage, like all of the Kansas game, things get really sticky for wide receivers. And for a big-bodied corner, he shows the ability to flip hips fairly well, though I don’t believe he drives on routes at an NFL level.

Prior to the combine, scouts said this is a guy that would have to test out of the waters to make it to draft day. Well, a 4.44 40-yard dash with a 39.5″ vertical means welcome to Cleveland Mr. Thomas.
