Round 5, Pick #170: Gary Johnson, LB Texas

I don’t really know how this makes Browns fans feel. Considering this is the pick they received in return for Josh Gordon. Who, despite all of his troubles in Cleveland seeming to have followed him to some extent in New England, was still one of the most talented receivers in all of football. And he’s flipped for Gary Johnson.

That’s no shot to the linebacker out of Texas because I love everything about this high motored high energy player. He needs some work though in a bunch of areas, and being undersized at 6’0 225 lbs means he’s going to have to become technically sound at the next level, but he should at the very least impact your special teams units day one.

He’s a bullet in pursuit and uses his quickness to shoot gaps and became an effective blitzer at Texas. But he’s really only effective going downhill, rarely did you see him making plays dropping into coverage which is an indication of the lack of fluidity in his hips.
