Round 5, Pick #155: Anthony Nelson, EDGE Iowa

This being the second of three fifth-round picks that Cleveland has this year, they will simply hope to add solid depth wherever they can. In this draft scenario, Anthony Nelson from Iowa just so happened to still be hanging around.

For Cleveland Browns fans, this guy will look fairly familiar. May I remind you of a financial wizard turned defensive end, Carl Nassib? This could be his twin. He’s a 6’7″ 275-pound defensive end from Iowa. So is he the most explosive, quick twitch, and bendy athlete? Heck no. But this dude plays his butt off and has the size to kick inside to defensive tackle during third-down packages to get after the pass rusher.

The Browns have plenty of defensive linemen that have shown the ability to get after the passer. With guys like Myles Garrett and new additions Olivier Vernon & Sheldon Richardson, but they could still use a big-bodied run stopper. Even if Nelson never proves to be a sack artist in the NFL, he doesn’t have to be here.
