On the latest NFL Mocks Podcast, we are joined by 2019 NFL Draft prospect Blake Cashman to talk about his journey to the NFL stage.

2019 NFL Draft hopeful and Minnesota Gophers star linebacker Blake Cashman grew up just about thirty minutes outside of Minneapolis, MN in Eden Prairie, where he attended high school.

There, his team won four straight state titles under legendary Minnesota high school football coach, Mike Grant (you might know his dad, Bud Grant).

Blake was kind enough to take some time out of his pre-draft schedule to chat with us here on the NFL Mocks podcast. If you would like to listen to our interview with Blake, you can check it out on iTunes, Spreaker, or even Stitcher.

Unlike most states, Minnesota only has one Division 1, power-five school and that’s the University of Minnesota. So, rightfully so, playing at that level is a dream most rarely even consider. However, despite having zero stars through the recruitment process and zero offers, Cashman entered his freshman fall as a 6’2″ 200 pounds soaking wet safety.

He then proceeded to make plays all over the field on special teams as a true Freshman, where he had his “welcome to college moment” covering a kickoff against Wisconsin. Always keep your head on a swivel kids.

Then, after a Freshman season of making an impact on special teams, Blake was asked to spend the offseason adding weight to become a linebacker. And boy did he pack on the pounds. From the moment he left high school to now, Cashman has gone from scrawny defensive back at barely 200 pounds to weighing in at 237 pounds during the combine and running a 4.50 40-yard dash.

Now, his speed may have come to a surprise to some, but it shouldn’t have. This is an athlete that makes the majority of his plays with his speed and agility at the position. With 104 tackles last season alone, Cashman proved himself on the field last season. The only problem scouts have is his injury history.
