2019 NFL Draft: First Team Offense
Wide Receiver #2: D.K. Metcalf, Ole Miss
As an evaluator of talent that selfishly aspires to be as correct and accurate with their evaluation as possible, if D.K. Metcalf doesn’t keep you up at night I don’t know if a prospect ever will. I mean seriously. We’ve seen physical anomalies at the wide receiver position before, but this is different.
The guy goes 4.33 in the 40-yard dash. Which, if you’ve seen his tape from college, you knew he could beat guys deep and do so with ease so something in the 4.4’s was expected. But it’s safe to say he shut the showdown with his actual time.
That being said, if the audience was on their feet clapping during the 40 and they stuck around long enough to see the short shuttle and three-cone, they were throwing tomatoes on the stage.
The film shows that as well though. The inability to confidently get in and out of breaks was not on display, so again confirmation of what we saw but extreme confirmation. Bottom line though, if all he can ever do is run deep and do it in a hurry, he’s going to be WR2 in this class good at it.
