Guards: Cody Ford, Oklahoma & Erik McCoy, Texas A&M

Cody Ford

So this can be considered cheating by some, considering Ford made 18 starts at Right Tackle for the Sooners. Then there are those of us that evaluate him as a potential pro bowl guard. In fact, in 2016 he was the starting left guard at OU till he fractured his fibula on the opening drive against Ohio State. So, it shouldn’t be a problem for this guy to move inside.

When you take a look at this young man’s work you’ll notice a couple of things: 1.) He doesn’t go backward. Defensive linemen are simply not able to move him. 2.) He is incredibly nimble in space and will be a really effective power puller in the NFL.

Dude is thic.

Erik McCoy, Texas A&M

This second guard spot can be a handful of guys, right? It’s all a matter of preference. Erik McCoy started for three straight seasons at center for the Aggies, and chip in two spot starts at guard during the 2017 season so he’s shown the ability to fit in where any team needs him.

McCoy’s combine was insane for a 6’4” 315 pound man. Running sub 5.0 seconds in the 40-yard dash at those measurable will always turn heads, but it’s confirmation of what you’d expect because no man that size is running that good of a time based off long speed.

No, it’s all about that first 10-yard split. McCoy’s film reeks of an athlete that transfers energy and power to his cleats rapidly.

It shouldn’t come to the surprise of any scout or coach that puts McCoy through a whiteboard session when he dominates it either.
