2019 NFL Draft: First Team Offense
Running Back: Devin Singletary, FAU
This is the toughest position in this draft class to evaluate to me because, despite what others have said, I don’t see one player in particular that has made leaps and bounds over the rest of the group. So, I feel the need to defend my reasoning for not taking Josh Jacobs before I even get into why my guy is Singletary from FAU.
I am a true believer in the ideology that very few running backs transcend the talent that is in front of them. Meaning, rarely in this world is there a Barry Sanders or Saquon Barkley type of back. Guys who, no matter what kind of trash you put in front of them, they will make do.
No. In fact, most of the time running backs are the complete opposite. They are a representation of the quality of talent in front of them.
Do you know why I don’t trust Alabama running backs? Because they are the driver that’s accustomed to driving on long empty highways and is about to get thrown into bumper to bumper traffic. Yes, you should look good behind five professional caliber offensive lineman in college.
Guess who didn’t play behind five pros, let alone one? Devin Singletary. And apart from the Oklahoma game in which everyone on the Oklahoma Sooners defense pitched a tent in the backfield, Singletary always managed to make chicken salad out of chicken feces.
