Sixth round: Drew Sample, TE, Washington

While George Kittle is an athletic freak and one of the fastest tight ends in the NFL, he needs some help and pressure taken off of him.

The 49ers would strike gold if Sample were available in the sixth round of this draft, as he is one of the top all-around tight ends in the class.

Though he’s quite a bit bigger than Kittle was coming out — Sample is 6-foot-5, 255 pounds — he’s not a lumbering brute at tight end. He ran a respectable 4.71 in the 40-yard dash and a solid 33.5 inch vertical jump.

Sample is no slouch athletically, but his skill set is a good complement to that of Kittle.

Kittle is going to do everything for the 49ers’ offense yet again this year, but having a second tight end with some athleticism and the ability to split the seam as well as play in-line would be a nice luxury for the 49ers.
