Round 5, Pick #143: Zedrick Woods, S Ole Miss

This late in the draft you are just hoping to draft a guy who, at the very least, makes the roster better. And if he’s a skill position player, he better be able to play special teams.

Well, Mr. Woods made the bulk of his plays in college coming downhill and tackling ball carriers in space. Pair that with 4.29 speed and you’ve got a missile in the special teams game.

Unfortunately for his chances to be a starter at safety one day, he is the definition of straight-line speed. He will need to become a lot more fluid in his breaks and his hips are fairly tight. But nonetheless, he’s a solid addition to the roster here in the fifth round.

Round 5, Pick #171 Emeke Egbule, LB, Houston

Alec Ogletree may have scored a few defensive touchdowns last year and made a handful of highlight plays, but the overall consistency at the position was not there.

Are you going to find his immediate replacement all the way down at pick #171? Maybe not. But you can get a solid player like Emeke Egbule, who at 6’2″, 245 pounds, ran a 4.65 at the combine.

He has the ability to both rush the passer and drop into coverage from the linebacker position which will be needed to succeed in the Giants system.

Round 6, Pick #180: David Sills V, WR WVU

I know Eli Manning isn’t necessarily known for taking deep shots anymore (in fact, his Average Intended Air Yard (IAY) has ranked in the bottom 10 in the league for last three seasons)

But he’s not going to be there forever, hopefully.

Sills is one of the best vertical threats in this draft. He’s available here at pick #180 however, because that’s about the only weapon in his arsenal.

He will need to develop his game if he wants to stick around in the league.
