Could DK Metcalf be left out of the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft after his insane 2019 Scouting Combine? According to Daniel Jeremiah, maybe.

The possibility that Ole Miss wide receiver DK Metcalf, one of the most freakish athletes we have seen in recent memory, could fall out of the first round is quickly becoming a near-probability.

Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network is very connected in the league as a former scout and personnel man, and he dropped this little nugget on Twitter just two weeks before the 2019 NFL Draft.

Putting those tweets together, it appears that Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is DJ’s odds-on favorite to be the only wide receiver selected in the first round of this year’s draft.

Fascinating.

That’s especially fascinating considering how incredible Metcalf’s performance at the Scouting Combine was, aside from his 3-cone time.

The proof is in the pudding, though, or in this case, the tape. Marquise Brown probably has the best tape of any receiver in this class, while Metcalf’s is quite limited.

So limited, in fact, that he would be one of few (if any) college receivers to be drafted into the NFL with less than 70 career receptions. While at Ole Miss, Metcalf caught 67 passes.

Now, Metcalf has flashed elite abilities and looks like some crazy combination of Julio Jones, Calvin Johnson, and David Boston, but does he offer only upside? Is he worth taking a first-round risk on?

It will only take one team to fall in love with him, but Jeremiah’s information is trustworthy and if he thinks there’s a chance only Hollywood Brown is taken off the board in round one at the wide receiver position, it should not simply be taken with a grain of salt.

Especially with only two weeks until the 2019 NFL Draft, teams are finalizing their boards and if Jeremiah has scanned enough teams with only Brown in their top 32, it’s possible we could see something that, in February or March, seemed impossible: DK Metcalf falling completely out of round one.
