Antonio Brown is a talented player who will probably end up in the Hall of Fame someday. He may have a hard time finding somebody to induct him though.

The guy has become quite good at burning bridges of late. He forced his way out of Pittsburgh, proclaiming he was treated unfairly. He called out Ben Roethlisberger for being the problem during his time there. Some people seemed to buy into that idea given the quarterback’s somewhat laidback reputation. However, Brown has had a chance to step back and remain silent. Basking in the knowledge that he fought the system and got what he wanted.

However, that moral high ground is slipping from his grasp rapidly. Brown is starting to come across more and more as a bitter individual who felt his grasp on the mantle of #1 guy threatened and lashed out in response. At least that’s how it comes across with his baffling snipe tweet at former teammate Juju Smith-Schuster. It would seem he believes the Steelers calling the young receiver their MVP of 2018 did not sit well with him.

It seems Brown was still angry about Schuster’s untimely fumble in the critical loss to the New Orleans Saints, a game Pittsburgh needed to win in order to keep their playoff hopes alive. He didn’t bother to mention how he basically quit on the team in the final game of the year against Cincinnati.

Antonio Brown attacking Smith-Schuster reveals clear insecurity

More from NFL Mocks

One thing about the NFL is it’s not big on loyalty for past deeds. It has always been a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately system. Players who were great in 2017 quickly found their buzz dead if they struggled in 2018. There is also the known concerns regarding age. It’s a game for young men and older veteran have to fight to survive. Brown apparently forgot those lessons, the same ones he taught to past Steeler greats like Heinz Ward and Mike Wallace.

Suddenly the script was flipped and the team went for a younger option in Smith-Schuster. One can imagine Brown felt threatened right away. Yet rather than handle it like a professional, he did what he’s become known for and built up a steady stream of resentment against the young man. Then when the chance to be confronted face to face was gone, he attacked.

Smith-Schuster himself was understandably perplexed by the entire situation, but then again he shouldn’t be. Brown has always been about himself. When things don’t sit well with him or serve his purpose, he’s going to let people know about it. That is what has made him such a great player but also a terrible teammate who may have permanently tarnished his legacy.
