The worst NFL draft pick of all time by every team
By Erik Lambert
30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Alabama has been a factory for NFL talent going back many decades. Normally when teams take players who stand out playing for that program, they don’t regret it. Yet even the mighty Crimson Tide can’t ensure players will be a success at the pro level. Such was the case with Keith McCants. He certainly looked the part with a big body, good athleticism, and playmaking instinct. The problem may not have been his talent, but how his team used him.
McCants had found his success as an outside linebacker at Alabama. When he arrived in Tampa Bay though, his defensive coaches switched him to defensive end. A position he’d never played before. He tried to make the best of it but it was clear he wasn’t built to play there. In three seasons he had 12 sacks and was eventually cut prior to his fourth. It’s fair to wonder what might’ve happened had he been able to stay at his natural position.
