The great thing about college football is the landscape is such that the most talented excel because the pool is so much bigger and the competition so much weaker. Players can get by and produce at a high level leaning almost solely on their natural gifts. The NFL? It requires so much more than that. Hard work and mental fortitude are equally as important. Vernon Gholston learned that the hard way when he arrived with the Jets.
He had a good career at Ohio State, finishing with 14 sacks in 2007 for Ohio State. None of that mattered in the pros. It became obvious that for all his physical skill, he had neither the work ethic nor the hard-edged attitude to maximize it. He played three seasons for New York after being drafted 6th overall. In 45 career games, he failed to register a single sack. Not much else needs to be said than that.
