23. New York Giants

31. . CB. Ohio State. Eli Apple . 23. player

This could be called the pick that finally got Jerry Reese fired as GM for the New York Giants. Eli Apple didn’t have a lot of huge fans in the media going into the 2016 draft with many ranking him the fourth-best corner. He was big, athletic and fast but the tape showed a player that needed a lot of work. That didn’t stop the Giants who made him the 10th overall pick in the draft. They soon found out why Apple had taken longer than expected to develop.

It became clear the young man suffered from maturity issues. He had thin skin and didn’t handle criticism well. This led to inevitable conflict both with his coaches and teammates, hurting his performance on the field as well. He was benched during the 2017 season and was eventually suspended. They tried to make things work with new coaches in 2018, but finally grew fed up and traded him to New Orleans. As a final insult, he recorded two interceptions upon arrival there.

One more than what he had in his entire Giants career.
