San Francisco 49ers top first round options in 2019 NFL Draft
3. Josh Allen, EDGE, Kentucky
If you were to draw up a hybrid player for a 3-4 outside linebacker role, they might look a lot like Josh Allen.
Allen is well put together at 6-foot-5, 262 pounds, and has the ability to wreck games as a pass rusher as well as drop into coverage when asked to do so.
I am not so sure Allen’s game is as complete at this point as an edge player as Nick Bosa’s, but he was wildly productive in the SEC with 17 sacks and five forced fumbles this past season (both second in the country).
His speed and length off the edge could complement Dee Ford quite well with the 49ers.
His quickness off the ball and ability to close on the quarterback in a hurry have him locked in — in my opinion — to the top three picks of this year’s draft. He’s got everything teams look for in terms of edge players who can win with their hands, speed, and vision to the quarterback.
Allen is capable of changing direction without losing speed and is relentless about swatting the football when he gets to the quarterback.
