04. Frank Gore backs out of free agent deal with Eagles

People lost their minds when linebacker Anthony Barr made the shocking decision to back out of signing with the New York Jets in order to return to the Minnesota Vikings. It might’ve been a far bigger thing had it not already happened before four years ago. That was when Pro Bowl running back Frank Gore had initially agreed to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles. However, just a day later he suddenly changed his mind and ended up signing with the Indianapolis Colts instead.

Gore later stated that what drove his decision was the realization the Eagles didn’t have the quarterback situation he was looking for. They were going into that year with Sam Bradford as their starter. He didn’t see that as a great opportunity, so instead chose to join Andrew Luck in Indy. Gore finished with 2,953 rushing yards in three seasons for the Colts. The Eagles ended up with two failed experiments in DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews.
