The Chicago Bears are in somewhat of a bind. They’ve traded Jordan Howard, leaving their running back position in a state of unknown.

They still have Tarik Cohen who will remain a dynamic threat out of the backfield both as a runner and pass catcher. However, he’s not an every-down threat. Mike Davis was signed to a new deal worth $6 million over the next two seasons. One would think they have big plans for him after he delivered a career-best year of over 500 yards at 4.6 per carry in Seattle in 2018.

Still, it’s hard not to feel like the Bears are going a bit too far out on a limb here. Davis has potential but he’s been a backup his entire career who had one minorly decent run last year. Speculation is the Bears will focus on the NFL draft in hopes of adding another young piece in the 3rd or 4th rounds. Give the fact they’ve reportedly met with no less than 11 running backs so far? It’s strange why somebody would think that.

However, this apparently isn’t the only avenue they’re exploring. It seems the team may wish to hold off on drafting a running back this year. Perhaps because they don’t see any legitimate difference-makers falling into their lap when they finally go on the clock with the 87th pick. So it seems they might be looking for a temporary fix for this year. Someone with credibility who fits the Matt Nagy offense and can give them at least a year of quality play.

To the shock of many, they seem to be sniffing around a familiar face. None other than the recently-retired Matt Forte.

Matt Forte is a great fit for the Bears offense, even at his advanced age

Forte remains one of the best and most beloved running backs in franchise history. He amassed 12,718 yards and 89 touchdowns during his eight years with the Bears. He also caught 487 passes. Fans have pondered ever since last year what Forte could’ve done in an offense like Matt Nagy’s. Though 33-years old now, it seems the team is willing to at least give him a shot to experience that for one year as talks are rumored to be serious about him coming out of retirement.

Except no they’re not. For those who haven’t caught on yet, this is obviously an elaborate April Fools prank. The idea came around thanks to the sudden un-retirement of Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten. Speculation soon began among the Bears community about which name among those recently retired could return to join their beloved. The most popular among them was Forte. The reasons were obvious from his great fit for the system to his not-too-ridiculous age.

Sorry for the anger this may have caused. I just couldn’t resist. Happy April Fools.
