2019 NFL Draft: Green Bay Packers first-round targets
Offensive Line
Will Packers fans like this? Probably not. But, it isn’t crazy to think they could go offensive line at either 12 or 30 overall, depending how things go on draft night.
David Bakhtiari and Bryan Bulaga are a great pair at the offensive tackle positions, but Bulaga has struggled to stay healthy for a full 16 games in the past few seasons. Green Bay also could use some help at either of their guard spots, despite signing former Broncos lineman Billy Turner to a four year, 28 million dollar deal in free agency. New head coach Matt LaFleur wants to run the ball, so it isn’t crazy to think they could go offensive line if the value presents itself.
There are two players the Packers might consider at 12 if they reach there. One of those players is Jonah Williams, who many believe is the top offensive lineman in the class. He played left tackle for most of his time at Alabama and excelled there, but some believe he would be better suited to play on the interior, and would be more successful there. The Packers could start Williams off at left guard with the intent to move him to right tackle in 2020.
The other possibility at 12 would be Jawaan Taylor. Taylor is a mauler at right tackle who might have the best tackle tape of any prospect in the draft. He is strong with quick feet, and could come in as the heir apparent for Bulaga as well.
At 30, there are still a couple players the Packers could target. One of them is Kansas State lineman Dalton Risner. Risner is another mauler with strong hands and plenty of versatility to kick inside if need be. He would be excellent in Green Bay as a guard.
The other possible target is Boston College’s Chris Lindstrom. Lindstrom isn’t talked about a ton, but his tape is some of the best out there.
