The Arizona Cardinals have done their best to deflect the idea that they’ve made up their minds regarding the intent of the #1 overall pick.

This was furthered by their recent meeting with Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa. A player many believe is the best overall in the 2019 draft class. However, it would seem the belief is growing that this is merely a smokescreen. Arizona already has their guy in mind and it’s the one who’s been connected to them for the past several months in Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray.

One insider believes the decision is made and that the quarterback has already been informed of it. Benjamin Allbright covers the Denver Broncos but has also made a name for himself across the wider NFL for his consistently accurate predictions, often well in advance of some other more notable insiders. He seemed so confident that Murray is going to the Cardinals, that he declared it not only on Twitter but also on a radio interview.

If this comes true, and there’s plenty of evidence to suggest it might, then a lot of things are about to be clarified both in the draft and the Cardinals locker room.

Josh Rosen will be traded and top 5 of the draft gets clearer

More from NFL Mocks

The arrival of Murray makes it plain as day that the Cardinals will be moving on from Josh Rosen, whom they drafted 10th overall just a year ago. Not the best look for their front office but what’s done is done. They’ll have to move on from the second-year QB via trade. Projections are the best they’re likely to get is a 2nd round pick in return with teams like the Giants and Patriots reportedly having some interest. Others are certainly in play as well.

Then there is the matter of the top five picks. If Murray does indeed going #1 overall, then the next few slots become a little easier to predict. The 49ers are almost certain to take Bosa at #2, given their pressing need for defensive end help. As for the Jets at #3, there is speculation they may try to trade down but it may be difficult for them to pass on the chance to pair Leonard Williams with Quinnen Williams in the middle of that defensive front.

One thing is for sure. If Allbright has gotten word of the Cardinals’ intentions, there is a strong likelihood that other teams have as well. This could create a greater sense of urgency among those who feel players they may not have had a shot at suddenly might be available.
