It is never too early to plan for the future. What NFL Draft prospects could be the best fits to take over for current veterans in the NFL?

Heading into the 2019 NFL season, the league is full of quarterbacks who are nearing the end of their careers.

Whether it is a new destination such as Fitzpatrick in Miami, or a long term tenure like Rivers or Brady, there’s no hiding the fact that in 2019, more than ever, the quarterback position is for the seasoned vets.

In nearly every instance of an older signal caller, there is a possible successor that would fit right into the teams’ system, via the NFL Draft or trade.

Los Angeles Chargers: Philip Rivers

By the time the 2019-2020 NFL season is underway, Chargers long-time signal caller, Philip Rivers, will 37 years old. Coming off of possibly his most efficient season to date, completing 68.3% of his passes for 4,308 yards along with 32 touchdowns, Rivers is showing no signs of slowing down.

That being said, it would be smart for Tom Telesco, the Chargers’ General Manager, to start looking for the successor of Rivers.

Perfect Fit: Josh Rosen

After being selected 10th overall in the 2018 NFL draft, there are whispers among NFL front offices with beliefs that the Cardinals might, in fact, move on from Rosen in order to pick Kyler Murray with the first pick in next months’ draft.

If the Cardinals do in fact move on from Rosen, he would be an ideal fit within the Chargers’ plan for the future. Rosen has shown flashes of elite arm talent in his short time in the league. The biggest knock on Rosen was that he had a difficult time accepting coaching; if that is indeed the case, there aren’t many better organizations to get into.

The Chargers players all respect coach Anthony Lynn, and he would have a few years to work on his craft behind a future Hall of Famer.
