Recapping the New York Giants crazy offseason moves so far
Golden Tate, Wide receiver
With $16 million in dead cap to pay towards Odell Beckham Jr. this year and nearly $14 million committed to their wide receiver position otherwise, the New York Giants have about $30 million in cap committed to that position this year.
I had to look it up just to see, but they are apparently not even close to alone in that regard.
The Giants gave Golden Tate a really nice contract after trading Odell Beckham Jr. worth an average of $9.375 million per year.
Though Tate’s contract is modest in comparison to Beckham’s, the decision to bring him in was curious to say the least, because it now helps the Philadelphia Eagles get a solid compensatory pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
On the field, Tate is one of the best in the NFL at creating yards after the catch. He’s not the all-around threat Beckham is, but he’s a really good veteran player who can work the slot or the perimeter.
Hopefully Eli Manning is able to bounce back and help Tate be as effective in his 30s as he possibly can be.
