The Philadelphia Eagles are at a point where they can still afford to be bold with their free agency maneuvering. The Carson Wentz contract hasn’t arrived yet.

Granted, they can’t afford to get too crazy with their money but it certainly sounds like they plan to be active in several markets. Two rumors that seem to be gaining steam of late center on their wide receiver and defensive tackle positions. No surprise given the depth issues at both. The first started not too long ago with a buzz that veteran DeSean Jackson is likely done in Tampa Bay.

It sounds like the Buccaneers are opening to trading him and he wishes to return to Philadelphia, his original team. The Eagles appear open to such an idea but there are obstacles. Most notably the draft picks compensation and the money. There is no way they’re paying him $10 million in 2019. Thus things remain in a holding pattern.

Jackson isn’t the only name they’re in on though. It appears they’re planning to reinforce their defensive front as well in former Jaguars Pro Bowler Malik Jackson. Josina Anderson revealed the team has come to terms with the defensive tackle on a new deal, putting him next to Fletcher Cox in the middle.

Jackson had 18 sacks in three years for Jacksonville and should be a solid replacement up front after the team traded Michael Bennett to the Patriots. He’ll join Cox, Brandon Graham, and a returning Derek Barnett to form what appears to be a formidable front four. If the Eagles can then improve their depth issues in the secondary, they should be right back in the playoff mix next season.

Then it will be about adding offensive firepower to help Wentz. DeSean Jackson is certainly a target, but expect them to also go after help at running back too.
