The Chicago Bears only have five picks in the 2019 draft. That’s less than ideal, especially for a GM like Ryan Pace who prefers to build through it.

This means one of two things. Either he’ll have to stomach it for a year and just do the best he can with what he has or he makes an attempt to secure more picks. Granted, he won’t be finding his way to any 1st or 2nd rounders. However, there may be ways for him to get some decent mid and late round choices without sacrificing the core of his team.

Here’s one way they could go about it.

The New York Jets announced their shift in offensive philosophy when they traded for guard Kelechi Osemele. It looks like they want to get a power running game going. The problem is they don’t really have the running back for it. Luckily their offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains knows just the man for the job in Jordan Howard. The two did good work together in 2016 and 2017. He’s exactly what the Jets would be looking for and the Bears get to secure another solid pick.

Nick Kwiatkoski has been a solid backup and quality special teams player for the Bears. However, his days as a projected starter are done. Roquan Smith and Danny Trevathan are firmly in place with the intriguing Joel Iyiegbuniwe as the #3 guy. The Bengals are in desperate need of linebacker help and have a bevy of 6th rounder at their disposal. Flipping one for Kwiatkoski isn’t a bad play. He brings starting experience, depth, and special teams benefits.

It’s felt for years like Jonathan Bullard has been playing in the wrong defense. The former 3rd rounder has always had explosiveness but his lesser size is a bad fit for a 3-4 defensive end. He’d be much better suited in a 4-3 where he plays an interior pass rush role. The Arizona Cardinals have shifted to that type of defense and could use pieces like him.
