The latest 2019 NFL mock draft seems to paint a clear picture of where the 1st round will go next month, at least from an overall perspective.

This is going to be a defensively-driven draft. The scouting combine proved that much. There is talent at every level on that side of the ball. It’s merely a matter of figuring out where the top offensive players will slip into the scrum. One thing has become apparent. It won’t be at the top. Don’t be fooled by the rumors. Arizona won’t trade out of #1 and they won’t take a quarterback. They’re going to keep it simple, safe, and correct.

1. Arizona Cardinals

Quinnen Williams

After all the talk and rumors, the Arizona Cardinals deliver the biggest anti-climax in recent memory. Not only by staying put at the #1 spot but by taking somebody other than Kyler Murray. Not that fans should be complaining. They have a good young QB in place already and this decision by the team will ensure their status as one of the better defenses in football remains unchanged.

The Cardinals already have a great edge rusher in Chandler Jones. One thing they haven’t had since Calais Campbell left was an interior presence that teams had to account for. Quinnen Williams is that sort of special talent. His mixture of size, power, quickness, and agility make for somebody that is exceedingly difficult to block. With him in the middle, that front will be no joke.
