Is someone trying to drive Kyler Murray’s draft value into the dirt?

NFL Network’s Charley Casserly got some damning intel about Heisman winner Kyler Murray, the projected top pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Former NFL executive and current NFL Network analyst Charley Casserly got some pretty damning intel from his source at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine regarding Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray.

Murray, who has been propped up as a favorite for the number one overall pick to the Arizona Cardinals, apparently didn’t impress in whatever interview information was relayed to Casserly.

It was the worst he’s ever heard? In 40 years of doing this?

Wow. Those are some strong words.

What people usually say coming out of the Scouting Combine is to believe nothing, believe everything. Peter Schrager of NFL Network has been talking on Good Morning Football all morning about how his sources are indicating that Murray was not this bad in interviews.

It’s possible that one team reached out to Casserly and gave him this information to hopefully drive Murray’s value down, but is that going to work?

It seems like the Cardinals like Murray enough that they won’t pass on him at number one overall anyway.

All of the buzz from the national media after the combine seems to indicate the Cardinals are all-in on Murray. Casserly himself reported that the Cardinals have spoken to other teams and are open to trading Josh Rosen.

That’s as strong an indicator as any that Murray is their guy going forward.

According to Peter King, Murray had 10 meetings with teams at the Scouting Combine, including the Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks, Washington Redskins, Oakland Raiders, New York Giants, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Chargers, Detroit Lions, and one mystery team.

Casserly has connections all around the league, I’m sure, but his strongest ties could be with the Washington Redskins, where he was an executive for many years.

The Redskins would probably love for Murray to fall to them in the NFL Draft, but that’s never going to happen.

The Dolphins could be trying to drive Murray’s value down, but so could the Oakland Raiders, who would probably love for their dream scenario of trading for Antonio Brown, signing Le’Veon Bell, and drafting Murray to come true.

Next. Kyler Murray's best fits in the NFL. dark

It seems highly unlikely a team like the Chargers, Lions, or Seahawks would have any reason to put Murray down like this, and the Cardinals obviously really like him. It’s not uncommon for teams to leak information like this on players in hopes of driving their stock down so they will fall down draft boards, but in Murray’s case, it looks and sounds very desperate and frankly, wrong.
