Josh Rosen trade

If the Cardinals are going to draft Kyler Murray (we’ll get to that on the next page), they are going to have to trade Josh Rosen.

Regardless of where Rosen was drafted the year before, if the Cardinals feel they have a chance to get an upgrade at the quarterback position, they need to take it.

Furthermore, they hired Kliff Kingsbury to be their head coach, not with any specific requirement that he develop Rosen to fit his system, but rather to bring the competitive balance back in the Cardinals’ favor in the NFC West which is loaded right now, especially at quarterback.

Rosen could be the Cardinals’ quarterback of the future, but Murray’s ceiling is much higher. If general manager Steve Keim and new head coach Kliff Kingsbury are betting their jobs on a guy, are they going to pick Rosen or Murray?

My money’s on Murray. I think the Cardinals would have no problem fielding a trade for Rosen and they could get solid value (though not a first-round pick) for him.

Here’s my trade proposal:

What we have here is the Cardinals moving up from their top pick in the third round (65th overall) to go up to 46th. The Redskins move down in the second round to 65th, keeping a solid day two selection while also giving up their 76th overall pick, a mid-third round selection.

That value would be solid for the Cardinals, who would then have three selections in the top 46 as well as an extra third-round pick, and the Redskins get a cost-effective quarterback to replace Alex Smith in Jay Gruden’s offense.
