2019 NFL Draft: Offensive tackles show off athleticism
The 2019 NFL Draft has a number of really good offensive linemen available, and their athletic skills were on display at the Scouting Combine.
The 2019 NFL Draft class has a chance to produce a number of really good instant starters along he offensive line.
Brooks Austin recently highlighted the five players he thinks are the top five in this year’s class at the tackle position, and the tackle position is not the only one teams will be targeting with their top 50 picks.
Watching some of these linemen work at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine, it’s easy to see why teams could prioritize these guys.
Florida RT Jawaan Taylor looked awesome running all the drills on the field at the Combine, and obviously looked great in terms of measurables with a 6-foot-5 frame, 35-inch arms, 10-inch hands, and a massive wingspan.
Despite his long frame (on which he’s packing 312 pounds), Taylor moved around really well in his combine workout. He’s all but solidified himself as a top 10 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Alabama LT Jonah Williams said in his session with the media that he feels he was the most dominant tackle in college football last year.
Williams is a player many scouts have been high on since he stepped foot on Alabama’s campus, and for good reason. This guy is as technical as it gets, and despite having arms under 34 inches, he rarely had trouble handling opposing defenders.
He also didn’t have a problem with speed, which is key for a left tackle in the game today.
Regardless if Williams plays tackle or guard or even center in the NFL, he’s going to be great. He had a very strong combine workout as well, and even got to meet and be critiqued by his idol, Joe Thomas.
Kansas State RT Dalton Risner has got a really likable quality about him, and he’s relentless in terms of the effort he gives.
His role as the rabbit in the mirror drill with Jawaan Taylor is all you need to know about how much this guy loves the game.
Risner is going to be a stellar right tackle in the NFL from day one. He checked in with 34-inch arms and put up 24 reps on the bench press at 225 pounds. He’s rock solid and one of the safest prospects in this draft.
Washington State OT Andre Dillard has been a favorite of NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah, and he did not disappoint with his phenomenal athletic display at the combine.
He ran a 4.99 in the 40-yard dash and put himself among the best ever at the offensive line with a 9’10” broad jump.
If your NFL team is in need of a pass protector, Dillard is the man for the job. He’s considered the best in this year’s class in that regard.
