NFL Compensatory Picks: The best every team has ever had
By Erik Lambert
Devin Taylor (DE, Detroit Lions)
Devin Taylor isn’t going down as the greatest compensatory selection of all-time or anything, but he was a really solid fourth-round pick for the Detroit Lions.
Taken 132nd overall in the 2013 NFL Draft out of South Carolina, Taylor played in 14 games as a rookie and started a pair.
From 2015-16, he had 11.5 sacks, 22 quarterback hits, 13 tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles.
Unfortunately, he played in just two games after signing with the New York Giants in 2017 and hasn’t played in the NFL since then, but he made an impact for the Lions when he was in Detroit.
Josh Sitton (OG, Green Bay Packers)
Are you noticing a theme with some of the 2008 NFL Draft compensatory picks? Apparently that was a great year for them.
Josh Sitton, a Jacksonville, FL native and product of UCF, was selected in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL Draft (135th overall) and has vastly out-played that draft status.
Sitton played in 11 games and started two as a rookie, and then from 2009-15 he started all but two games.
He helped the Packers win the Super Bowl in the 2011 season and was named to four Pro Bowls in his career, three with the Packers and one after he signed as a free agent with the Chicago Bears.
Sitton was let go by the Bears in 2018 as a cap casualty and signed with the Miami Dolphins, returning to his home state. He missed all but one game of the 2018 season with a rotator cuff injury but should return to form and be a strong piece of the Miami offensive line when healthy.
